How to retrieve lost documents
Hello
I downloaded something and after I uninstalled it again. I think I downloaded it to my documents and when I decided to uninstall the new program it got rid of my documents too; of course:smileysurprised:
Then I installed a document recovery program and it showed me all the files deleted. :robottongue:The problem is that for example the word documents will not open anymore. A window pops up and shows that those doc. are encoded.:robotvery-happy: I tried every version but still could not open the recovered files. There extensions seem to be okay. I also lost a memory file and can not find it again exept the shortcuts, is there any hope?
:smileyindifferent:
bye bye and thanks for your help

What document recovery tool did you install? What is the specific wording you receive when you try to open *.doc files?

Hello again,
Yes unfortunatley I bought it.:smileysad: If you get the 30 day trial version they only let you recover one file. But after seeing all those lost files on the list you get inspired to buy. :womanvery-happy:
Thanks so much for your help Denny!!
and thanks for the helpful links you provided.:robothappy::robotindifferent::robotsurprised:
All the best,
Manzani

If all Handy Recovery has is a listing of files which you no longer have on your hard disk, there is no reason to keep it. This is true particularly if you downloaded the 30-day trial version, which will cease operating after the trial period is over. If you purchased it, you might as well leave it installed in case you ever need it again. I don't imagine it is taking up much hard disk space.
For the files which indicate they don't know what program to use to open them, you need to reassociate them with an application. If you know what program created them, right-click the file name in Windows Explorer and choose "Open with" from the context menu. Select the appropriate program from the list that appears then check the box to tell Windows to always use that application to open that file type.
