Lorena,

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable)
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

QuickSet(Laptop only)

Rick, I tried to download these drivers to my flash drive. The drivers want to download directly to my desktop. If, I plug a network cord directly into my laptop, will I be able to download the driv ers onto my laptop machine?

Rick,

Thx for the info. But I can not download anything. My wireless network is not running. I followed the instructions on how to format my disk and reinstall the XP OS. Can I download ionto a flash drive then? Or how can I get these on my system? I thought all drivers/etc would be on my OS reinstalation software disk.

Thx Lorena

Lorena,

You should have a drivers disk that came with the computer. If you install the notebook/desktop utility and the chipset drivers, you'll be able to connect using the ethernet cable to go online. The finish by downloading the rest of the drivers and install them.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager) and see if you have any yellow exclaimination marks or red x's

Lorena,

Try connecting the ethernet cable and see if you can connect. If not, you'll need to download the notebook/desktop utility and the chipset drivers to another computer and burn them to a CD or flash drive and put them on this computer.

Or...

If the recovery partition is still there, you can try this and if the Dell image is there, you'll have everything back to the way it was when you purchased the machine. Please make copies of files and folders that you cannot afford to lose.

If, I dont have this driver disk, then what? Ill look but I found my OS install but nothing else. I guess I can not save these drivers to a flash drive some way?

If Io have yellow ! and red x's, then what. I will assume these mneed fixing, correct?

Riock,

Thx for your patients.

Last evening I went to Dell, put in my service tag # and found a lot of dow3nloads for my Dell 700m. Can I hurt my Dell if I download the wrong driver?

I only have one yellow ! left. And of course I still can not get onto my network. The yellow ! is found under Device Manager -> (?)Other Devices - (?!) Internet Controller. I thought I prety much downloaded everything I thought I might need. Anuy thoughts on wich driver I missed. My system finds my wirerless signal, I just cant use it still.

Rick,

Doing a search in Dell Community, I bet you will tell me that I installed the drivers in an incorrect order. Well, I thought I did. When is the bios driver added? Under Dell 700m I found two NSS which I loaded then whatever I found in the Chipset. I found nothing for the Processor Driver. Then I pretty much guessed on what I needed for video on down as I have no clue.

Do I need to start completely over from formatting my hard drive? Or can I just reload my drivers in order? If I do this, must I redo all of my drivers or just the first two (NSS, Chipset)? Or must I follow exactly the list below? A lot of these drivers I had no idea what they were and if I need them.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable)
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

Lorena,

Did you install the Dell Notebook System Software, then the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers? If you install these two first, the rest of the order doesn't matter. If you forgot to install the Notebook System Software, install it now and see what you have in the device manager. If still yellow, the install the chipset drivers again.

Then install the Dell Wireless (US) WLAN Card

The order was posted in the first responce to you. It's ok, you should be able to just install these three and get it working.

Rick,

No luck, no luck, no luck.

Darn!

I installed the Dell Notebook System Software 1st as you suggesrted, but the Internet Controller was still yellow. I then downloaded the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers. No change. Then I down loaded the Dell Wireless WLAN Card driver and my computer went crazy. I received an error message that would not close that said “bcmwltry.exe - application error, Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)“. I tried going to my Control Panel but the CP barely would start and thus was not working very well. I finally was able to remove the software for the Dell Wireless WLAN Card driver and my laptop began working again.

Now, not only does my Internet Controller shop yellow, but so does my Network Controller.

Any other thoughts? Thx for your help

Lorena

Lorena,

I read in anothe froum that the error you have, you need .net framework. It's available at Microsoft, usually through a Windows Update. It can be downloaded from Microsoft. IU think with XP, I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong, you need to install starting with .net framework 1.1 and keep updating it to 3.5

How do I get the .net framework? I cannot get online to get the updates as the internet controller is the reason (as it is yellow). Where do I go, thx.
