How to uninstall McAfee virus software to install another virus program?

Question

I purchased my Inspiron 6000 notebook with McAfee virus software installed.  I want to uninstall the program to be able to install Computer Associates eTrust, Internet security suite.   I tried to install the new software and it stated it would try to uninstall my old virus software but was unable to do so.    It stated that I would have to remove it.  I tried to through 'control panel' and 'add or remove programs', but was unable to do so.   Any suggestions?

Before attempting to un-install McAfee virus software, open its start page and disable it. These programs cannot be removed while they are running.
