Does the LaserJet IIIP support USB or is it a parallel printer that you've connected with a Parallel>USB port adaptor plug? Older HP parallel printers don't work so well, if at all, when connected via USB so try connecting it directly to the parallel port.

I purchaced a Parallel>USB port cable to run the LaserJet.  I have tried plugging the USB end into several different locations.  I read somewhere it should be plugged into the upper center of the cluster of ports on the back of the computer.  Also I read where it may require a powered USB port.  I also plugged it in there too.  It just doesn't respond.  Alas, I don't have a parallel port on the computer.

DaleV,

There is no Windows XP driver for the LaserJet IIIp (which is why mine is still connectd to my Windows 98 computer).

Denny is right, there is no Windows XP support.  But according to the HP support site, there is built in support (drivers) in Win XP64.  Strange that they wouldn't support XP but do have "basic function" drivers built into XP64.

To all,

Amazingly enough, I was able to use the supplied drivers in XP and got the printer to work by redirecting the USB port - not the physical cable - but in the properties of the printer.  Thanks for your information.  But, it now works fine.
