i cannot boot up os

UH, OHHHH. There will be some articles on showing you how to copy over the HAL.dll from you restore cd or partition, but it could be more than that. It usually is. Like a corrupt boot sector or just a bad sector on the drive. It could be physical or software corruption. You'll have to run a chkdsk first to see you have a bad platter. Then you would be able to troubleshoot from there, or just recover the entire OS again with your recovery disk. I've done a lot of these.

Try this

 

1. Insert and boot from your Windows XP CD.
2. At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
3. Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
4. Typically this will be #1
5. Type bootcfg /list            to show the current entries in the BOOT.INI file
6. Type bootcfg /rebuild      to repair it
7. Take out the CD ROM and type    exit
