I cannot play DVD on my laptop

I had to reformat my Inspiron 6000.

With help of Dell Forum members, I downloaded drivers and it's working fine except playing DVD.

When I check the 'Device Manager', 'video controller' still has a question mark.

I installed 'power dvd' that came with the laptop, also downloaded several drivers from Dell's website so I'm not sure what else to install.

Can you help me identify the correct driver to download so I could play DVD on my laptop?

Thanks.

To determine which driver you need, you will have to post which video adaptor you have.
You, as the owner, can go to the Dell site and, with your tag number (which DELL will not allow you to post), can determine your configuration.
You may also have to install the Chipset drivers for your computer, available from DELL here

Did you install the Intel chipset drivers and the Notebook System Software first before all other drivers? Don't just install any drivers in your list in Dell downloads. You should install only those that match your hardware. If your 6000 is like mine, you need the Intel Integrated Video driver. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=EN

Yes, after I have reformatted I got the following advise

'Start with the chipset drivers, first. Followed by the Notebook system software then, the network drivers for the particular adapters that are installed in your I6000'

and I followed it religiously.

I checked the link but couldn't locate 'Intel Integrated Video driver'. Under what heading would I find this? I thought I saw this somewhere but I cannot remember.

Thanks much for your help.

What happens when you try to play a DVD?

Did you try playing it in power DVD?? (instead of Windows Media Player)??

Dumb question, but just making sure.
