I can't change the default folder for storing Windows Mail data.

Question

It's very strange. I go into Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintinance, Store folder and Change. I enter a new location for the store folder on my second drive, it accepts it and tells me the store folder will be changed when I next re-open Windows Mail. But of course it never changes - I've tried several times with all the variations I can think of. I like to keep all my personal data on a seperate drive and I've managed to move every thing else but my mail refuses to budge. Hope someone has a solution - I can see no possible reason why it shouldn't work. Thanks for reading this whether you can help or not.

Is the destination folder also named Inbox??? Just in case put Inbox as the folder's name on the second HDD

Try opening windows mail as an administrator, right click run as administrator, then try changing the store location.

Thanks guys. Tried both of your suggestions and a few more variations of my own but no luck, the folder won't budge. Must just be a quirk in Vista. No doubt it will be put right eventually.

I finally figured it out.  In Windows mail go to tools-Options-advanced-maintenance-stored folder-change.  Make sure you have a new folder with nothing in it.  Select the new folder.  When you get to the screen that says this will not take place until you restart you computer, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete.  When the task manager comes up, go to the process tab and kill any 'winmail.exe' process also. It took me twice to get the folders to move, but it worked.
