I need some help!

Im having a big problem with my ME desktop.

I had recently downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3. When I completed the download, I started checking for spyware right away. After about 10 minutes of scanning, it had found a bunch of spyware on my computer (I dont know the exact amount). Some files said that they will be fixed on restart.
I restarted and fixed those errors but since then, my desktop will never boot up. The only thing on the screen is my wallpaper NOTHING else. I press Ctrl Alt Delete and no programs are running. The task manager is empty. Ireally hope there is a way to fix this.
This is a huge problem for me because I just ordered a brand new computer and I need to transfer a lot of files. Ive been using my desktop for the past three years. All my files are on it and a lot of them are extremely important. Thank you in advance.

Run System Restore and you should be back in business.

I would run system restore if I could reach it. My desktop does NOT appear. only my wallpaper. When I press ctrl alt delete nothing is running. Explorer isnt running. Nothing is there, JUST my wallpaper. No start menu, no shortcuts, no toolbar... nothing.

I started that tutorial, it wants me to start ME with the startup *disk*.

Would that be a floppy disk or a cd?

Also, I was wondering if there is a phone number I could get for dell tech support. thank you.

The Windows ME Startup Disk is a floppy diskette.  I'm not sure if they included one when you got the system, although they did with Win98 systems.

In addition to restoring the registry from outside of Windows, you should also be able to start the System Restore tool from a command prompt (pre-Windows), using the same startup disk mentioned in Denny's link.  See the information at the link below.

If you can't find your WinME startup diskette, you can either create (or use) one from another WinME system, or download the necessary files to create one here:
