I would then suggest rolling back to just before you started applying the updates. Set your update options to notify you when updates are available but do not download or install them. I am a firm believer in controlling what is pushed to my system, and this is a good way. Also you can wait until you see if others are reporting issue with the newest updates.

this way you can start applying them one at a time to see if you can isolate them.

Does your reinstall disk have SP1 already in it? That will save a lot of time if it does.

more background info is helpful, such as computer model, os hardware and a brief description of how/when it crashes and t/s steps you have tried

Stopped All add-ons  no messenger programs
Finally did a complete restore back to original settings  fixed it  but as soon as I started to put the mocrosoft updates in  started back up
I am unable to narrow it down to one

Ohhh I would get rid of IE8 there are too many reported issues with it.

IF you want to try another browser I would highly recommend FireFox. I switched to using it about 4 months ago and find it far better than IE.
