IE Blocked from Internet Access

Question

Hey, I just installed the Vista Upgrade and everything went 'smoothly', except Internet Explorer and my eMail software are unable to access the Internet.   I can access all the computers on my network and my instant messenger logs in and functions, it's just IE and Thunderbird.   Any suggestions?

Are you using a firewall??

is the firewall Blocked IE and Thunderbird.

I shut off/disabled all firewalls and still couldn't surf or download email.

Check all your services. Make sure DNS client is running. Also, in some cases I have to tell my compter the TCP/IP address of my gateway (router).

I have checked... I can browse and access other machines on my network, I can use my instant messenger, I can ping using domain names, but IE and my email client error out.
