IE keeps going back to previous pages

I keep having a problem with IE.  About once a week it will start acting up.  First my back and forward buttons will not work on my mouse and then IE will start going back to the previous page on it's own.  It starts out doing this after a couple of minutes, but the longer I let it go, it starts doing this within seconds of going to a page.  It's kind of random as to what page it will use as a "stopping point" that it keeps jumping back to.  Restarting the computer does not help, but when I use system restore from the last restore point, that solves the problem.  It then happens again about a week later.  My virus scans are clear and I run Ad-Aware often.  Any ideas?  I've got an XPS Gen 4 with Windows XP home.

Have you cleared the memory cache on occasion?

It could be a toolbar that you may have installed. Uninstall any if you do.

I don't have any installed except the Norton AntiVirus toolbar, which was already installed.

A good and free program that lists all your memory cache and temporary files is IE Privacy Keeper. Download it from www.browsertools.net . Then there's no need to manually clean the folders out.

Thanks.  I'll give that a try.  Apparently I had some files waiting to burn to CD that I didn't realize were there.  They've probably been there a while without me knowing it, and were causing the problem.

Probably not as often as I should.  As a matter of fact, when I ran system restore, a balloon popped up that said I had files waiting to be written to CD that I didn't realize were there.  I guess that would do it.
