IE problem related to SP2?

I think the pop up stopper in IE6 has freaked out. I cannot click any links without holding the control key.

This is even after turning off the pop up blocker in IE and trying to allow a particular site. I get a message in the status bar that a popup has been allowed but no window will open. The new window command has been completely nulified. Anybody have any ideas on how to get it back?

Thanks,

Chaz

Spyware Could Hinder SP2 Installation
(6/2 September 2004)
Microsoft is warning users to scrub their machines of spyware and back
up their data before downloading the Windows XP Service Pack 2 update.
There are reports that certain spyware programs cause machines to
freeze
when the update is installed.  In addition, PC manufacturers are
warning
users to install new drivers and patches before downloading SP2.
US-CERT has tempered its recommendation that people apply SP2 with
warnings to back up data and check with product manufacturers for
compatibility issues.
