It sounds like you have downloaded a hijacker. Which antispyware program are you using? Have you run it? Note that no sinigle antispyware program removes all parasites. Certainly you don't want the one that has hijacked your home page. Perhaps if you provided more details (i.e. what home page do you have that you can't change, name of program that the page is telling you download, etc.) someone could better help you. As it is we would just be taking a wild guess at what you should do.
Internet explorer has been hijacked. Either you can download anti-spyware softwares to get rid of spyware or try following steps as a workaround.
Right click on Task bar. Click properties. Check the option that says "Enable Quick launch".
Now you will have a small Internet explorer (e) beside the start menu. Right click on that "e". Click properties. Click on the "Startup" tab. In the target field you will find,
The above change made
www.google.com as the home page. Once you do this, click "Ok" button.
Right click on the "e" once again and click the option which says "Send to" -> Desktop(Shortcut). You can rename the short cut on the desktop to "Internet Explorerr"
Note: Instead of
www.google.com, you can have your own website as homepage.
i have adaware spyware remover
i do run it sometimes and it takes off spyware
but not all of it like you said
when I open IE http://www.safetyupdate.net/ comes up
and it tells me to downlaod spy heal or pest trap
last time i was getting this wheelchair guy on my task bar
and it told me to download spyware doctor
but you have to pay for it to remove the pyware
so i deleted it afetr i downloaded it and the wheel chair guy went away.
I am glad I could give you a work around. There is not much of a difference. In the workaround, you are using a short cut. It will not cause any harm to you. You can hide the Internet Explorer icon by doing the following steps.
Right click on desktop wallpaper. Click properties. You will get Display properties window. In this window, click on Desktop tab. In the Desktop tab, click on Customize desktop Button. Now uncheck the box beside "Internet explorer". Click 'Ok' and 'Ok' again.
