You are probably going to have to do a "clean" install - reformat the hard drive and then install everything. Kazaa is known to be buggy, along with all the spyware and legalities. Just reinstalling over top of the existing install won't always fix problems.
If you have had KaZaA you will need to get rid of the junk that came with it:-
------------------------
Use these to remove Malware (Spyware and Adware).
1)
SpyBot Search and Destroy After installing SpyBot Search & Destroy, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all the items it marks in red.
2)
Get Ad-Aware After installing Ad-Aware, and before running the program, first press “check for updates now".
Click "Connect" and install all updated components available. Click 'Finish'.
Press "Scan Now", then 'next', and let Ad-Aware scan your drives.
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again.
Check all found items, and click 'next' once more.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.
Always reboot the computer between each program - both of these may find things that they need to have a reboot of the machine to clear - please reboot and let them finish .
Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise.

Someone can give you a good site to do the clean install but you'll lose all your data, programs, drivers, etc. Everything including XP will be erased. If you can back up all your documents, email, etc. then the only thing involved is time and possibly some aggrevation. I don't use Kazaa but I would try to save your current setup. You should start backing up all your data now though before you try to fix your system. I think it's worth a try. Let's try to fix it.
1. Create a System Restore point.
2. Re-install Kazaa.
3. Uninstall Kazaa (through Add/Remove) and re-start computer.
4. Download, Install, Update, and Run AdAware. Delete everything it finds. Chris gave you the link to download the AdAware program.
5. Go to Start|Run and type sfc /scannow(space after the first "c"); have your XP 'Re-Installation' cd handy in case the sfc command asks for it.
I would try that except for the fact that I can't even get onto the internet to download Kazaa again. I can't do anything that involves me downloading stuff. How would I reformat my hardrive?

Firstly, this is one of the better clean install sites. Print out all the pages. The formatting as you will read is part of the XP Install process; you will be advised when to do it.
I believe your problem was caused mainly by your deletion of Kazaa. You (now) know that you should use the Add/Remove function in Control Panel to uninstall programs.
You have internet access. If the friend/library/cafe/other computer could download the Kazaa program and copy it to a cdr or cdrw cd then you could copy it to your computer and install it, etc. You might look in C:\Programs to see if the Kazaa(or whatever it's called in Programs) folder with the setup.exe or install.exe file in it. If so you might be able to re-install from there. If you can get someone to download some stuff and copy them to a cd I suggest you get AdAware and Spybot at the same time. Use AdAware first.
I do suggest the first thing you do is clean out your TIF files in IE|Tools\Internet Options\Delete Files and then run the System File Checker. To run this command, go to Start|Run and type in: sfc /scannow(space after first "c") and reboot. With a lot of luck that may give you internet access by itself; you'll still want to do the install/uninstall procedure if you think Kazaa didn't uninstall correctly the first time. Run the AdAware program and say goodbye to stealware.
