You are not connecting to IE. IE is on your computer. The problem is with your Connections or Network settings. You must have a network since you mention other computers. Open Network and Sharing Center in Vista and follow the prompts to connect to your network and router. Since you haven't mentioned any details about your model or how you connect to the Internet--wired or wireless, router, your ISP, etc., you can use Vista Help for more help or post back with more info.

No,  that is not the problem. Lets see if I can give better information here:

I have Inspiron 1705

Intel Core Duo 1.86GHz  1.87 GHz

32 bit operating system

Dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini card

Vista

I am connected to high speed internet through our cable provider.

I will turn on the conputer and have to wait about 5 minute for it to boot up completely and then wait for the system to identify and connect to the wirless system, then once it is connected then I try to connect with Internet Exporer and it will sit at a white screen and say connecting then finally after about 5-10 minutes it will say can not connect to internet check connections.

This will happen about 90% of the time.

None of my other laptops do this and they do not have Vista installed on them.

One has XP the other has 98 and the last has millenium

SO this has to be an issue with vista.

This is unacceptable for the price of the computer that I have paid. It is not the connection nor is it the sharing all this has been checked and it good, signal strength  is great and have tried everythign to fix this. there are no viruses nor is there and malware.

So does any one have any ideas to what is the issue.

Thank you

it is unlikely a problem with vista.  i have had no connectivity problems (and i've used my dell now with two different ISPs and routers)

have you checked your firewall settings? you may have two firewalls running, which could be causing this problem.

Yes it is your connection. You are connected to the network but you are not connected to the internet. Do like previous poster and check your firewalls.

Try booting into safemode with network support. See if it will connect there.

Also might want to post in the network/internet/wireless forum

Have tried all the above, IT IS NOT ANY OF IT.

I have looked at the firewall, and also have tried in safe mode. NONE of it works. However when I turn  on my other 2 computers they connect just fine. Just not the Vista. There is a hang up somewhere and if I dont find it soon this piece will go back to DELL.

Nothing resolves this issue.

Thank you for all you have tried to do but it does not work............

on the computer that will not connect open the run command.

In the dos popup box type ipconfig /all

right click and select all

open notepad or something simular and past the results there. then copy and past the results here.

Have you tried the Vista PC on another wireless network to see if it works?

I guess you could have a bad wireless adapter, have you installed the latest driver for the wireless card?

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb878035.aspx    maybe you missed something in setting up the wireless connection.

Post your IP config as Dave50 suggested for more help on the issue.

My sister had the same problem and for a reason i haven't figured out windows vista has IE integrated into it i ended up having to reinstall the operating system from the disc and it worked make sure when you do this you pick the c drive to install the new copy of vista too then remove the old windows folder to free up space it took me 3 days to figure this all out and i tried all the methods posted and even spent 1.5 hours on the phone with a tech but after the decision to just reinstall vista it only took me about an hour to get it all done and working probably could have gone faster if she didn't live way out in the woods and only has a phone connection hope this helps

First see if you have this feature to restore the PC

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?docid=28C0548D825EB65DE040A68F5B2865A8&c=us&l=en&s=dhs

Restoring from the DVD will damage the hard drive based restore feature from Dell, if you have it.
