IE6 cannot open search page

Dimension 8250
WINXP Home
IE6 & OE6
512 RAM, 60GB HD

When I started to have problems with the computer, including e-mail and the Internet, I tried to repair Windows using the Reinstallation CD that came with the computer. The repair failed and really messed up the machine so I did a reinstall. Now I cannot get on the Internet at all. The ISP has unsuccessfully tried to help but the problem is in the computer.

When I open IE6 the message appears: Page cannot be displayed.

I found a Microsoft database Article 326155, revision 9.3, dated March 25, 2006 titled "Error message when you try to access a web site in Internet Explorer: Page cannot be displayed". Am following this section by section as best that I can. Now, when I type in different addresses I am also getting the message "IE cannot open the search page".

Since I cannot access the Internet I cannot update Windows or download the Anti-virus program.

Can anyone help with this IE& problem?

I had this same problem with my laptop.  Can you access the Internet with another Browser, like Netscape?  I could with mine, just not with IE.  Turned out it was the Firewall in Norton Utilities causing the problem.  I turned off the Firewall in Norton, and turned on the Firewall in Windows XP.  That solved my problem, maybe yours as well.

Thanks for answer. I just found that I have a damaged HD and will have to replace it.
