Have you tried this?

1.Quit all programs that are running.
2.Click Start, and then click Run.
3.Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4.When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll

This is just my opinion but I quit using IE6 months ago when I discovered Firefox.
A small very cool browser and you get NO DARN POP-UPS!!!!!!
NONE!!!!!
You can import all your favorites and nothing will change except the performance for the better.
I'll by you lunch if you aren't happy.

Have tried regsvr32 on the command-line. Works on all but  Msjava.dll and Actxprxy.dll.  Did a browse for these files on the harddisk; not there. Checked  the harddrive of the other Dell (both dimension 4600); files not there but the IE6 on the second machine is working OK.  Tried the regsvr32 on the second machine; worked OK except for the two files also. Spent quit some time comparing the two machines during the last weeks, running virus scanners, spybot, etc. No luck sofar ....

bardt,

You will not have msjava.dll on your computer unless you installed Microsoft Virtual Machine (or your version of Windows includes SP1 and not SP1a). You should have Actxprxy.dll.

The full troubleshooting document for the problem is here. If it does not resolve the problem you might want to consider reinstalling Internet Explorer using the steps here.

Thanks for the support. The IE6 problem is fixed after the re-install using the following command found in the last response

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf
