Hi,

I want to run IE7 under XP to try and fool a website that is insisting on XP only to view its content (it also insists on IE6 or better, I tried Firefox and the website wouldn't let me in with that).

What I meant about the shortcut was that I couldn't run the shortcut under program compatibility (I created it okay).

Thanks,

David

Hi David
IE 7 is used in Vista it is part of the Vista OS why would you want to run it in
compatibility mode ?
Where do you want to have the shortcut ?
If you want it on the desktop go to the start menu right click it and
drag it to the desktop then let go of it it will ask if you want a shortcut there
say yes or ok .

Hi David
The problem that you are having with that web site and others do it also
if you read on this forum i think you can get the answer you need it may
be your antivirus program that is stopping you from using the web site
you are trying to use.
or the web site just does not understand IE 7
Read a few more pages here and see if you and find a fix .
I know i read one a few days ago with almost the same problem .
Good Luck

Can you post the address of the website?

You need to change to Browser Agent string - that's how the website checks for operating system.

In Vista it obviously says Windows Vista or Windows 6.0 but if you change it to Windows XP or Windows 5.1 it should work.

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion. A quick google search on browser agent strings turned up a utility on microsoft's own web site for changing this temporarily which has worked.

Link to utility is..

Thanks,

David
