1. The personal documents arrangement is practically the same in Vista/7 as in XP ... XP documents (including Downloads) is found in C:\Documents and Settings\Username; Vista/7 documents (including Downloads) is found in C:\Users\Username. The Documents and Settings to User is really the only noticeable difference. This will not change by going to IE9. IE9 will automatically save downloads in the C:\Users\Username\Downloads folder, unless you choose Save As and specify a different location.
2. The My Favorites folder is still used by IE9 and is in the same location as pre-IE9 (C:\Users\Username\Favorites). Again, nothing here changes with IE9.
3. The Pictures/Videos folders will continue to show up in the Documents folder. Nothing will change with IE9.
4. Your Hotmail account will remain in its current format ... Hotmail is accessed by a web browser and is fully supported by IE9 (Hotmail is done by Microsoft).
All the above are specific to Windows, not your browser, so there should be little in the way of surprises (other than IE9 looks a little different) when you move to IE9.
As for your favorites as they were with MSN Dialup - MSN Explorer is just a rebranded version of Internet Explorer. Favorites, while an IE-default of being listed vertically in the Favorites pane, can create multiple folders for sectioning types of websites - in all versions, and can even save groups of tabs as a single "favorite". IE can do another thing with favorites-like functionality ... right-click on the top of your IE window, and enable Links (IE 7) or Favorites Bar (IE 8/9) ... you can then add shortcuts to this bar (manually or drag the website icon to the bar) for instant access to your favorite web destinations.
