Try downloading and installing the standalone version of Internet Explorer 9,

I recommend installing the standalone version of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (bottom two files x86 = 32 bit, x64 = 64 bit) before installing IE9.

I am installing the x86=32 bit Windows 7 Service Pack 1 now which is going to take a while from what I see, it must be one big download.  Once that is finished then I will try to install the standalone version of IE9 and see if it goes through.  I will let you know what happens.

For IE9 you need SP-2.

I've not had any issues with installing IE9 as part of a Microsoft update on an Inspiron 530 MT desktop, running 32-bit Window 7 SP2

You only need to download the 32-bit service pack version.

Okay I waited over an hour for that download to finish for the Windows 7 SP 1 file x86=32 bit and when it got to almost the very end it ask me if I'm sure I want to run this and I said yes and then a box comes up saying no data found.  Now what do I do?  I waited over an hour for this and it does this at the very end.  Now I'm back to square one again.  Was I suppose to download both the 32 bit and 64 bit or just the 32 bit like I have.  Also there are 3 other downloads under those 2 you said.  Now what do I do?

If you have 32 bit Windows 7 the file windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe (537 MB) should suffice.

Its strange why its not installing.

Can you press [Windows] and [Pause|Break].

Does it say Service Pack 1 or not? If it does then proceed with the standalone version of IE9.

If not check that the file you have downloaded (right click and click properties) is 537 MB and it has not incorrectly downloaded.

Next I would download and install ccleaner and defraggler. Once installed run both the cleaner in ccleaner and also the registry cleaner. Subsequently run defraggler. This may fix some junk files/registry settings preventing windows from updating properly.

As muto mentioned earlier a small malware check might be of use. What security is it you are using anyway? Malwarebytes' Antimalware is a good program. The free version runs/updates on demand only so it is worth having around for a periodic second checker. The pro version gives realtime protection.

In the Recommended (mainly free) software wiki that I wrote I tried to give a brief explanation of these programs and others.

ccleaner, defraggler, Malwarebytes' Antimalware are all small programs (it won't take anywhere near as long to download them as the service pack).

SHESAGORDIE there is no Service Pack 2 for Windows 7. Vista is at SP2 however.

I did that and there is no listing for any Service Pack at all so now what?  It is a 32 bit though.

You ran the ccleaner (cleaner and registry) and defraggler and then tried to install it again? The file you downloaded was 537 MB? What security are you using? Did you try the scan with Malwarebytes' Antimalware?

I have no Service Pack listed so therefore I have no Service Packs installed.  I did, however, try to install Service Pack 1 and once I restarted my computer there was a fatal error and my computer would not start up, had to wait for Microsoft to try to fix the issue and finally got my computer to start.  Tried this twice and both times fatal error so I hid that update so I won't do that again.  Can I install the Service Pack 2 on my computer without SP1 so that I can download IE9?  If so where do I get it and what if that has the fatal error message also?  Before I do anything I will check for malware and stuff like someone said up above but I have ESET Nod32 as well as Spy Sweeper so I don't think I have any malware, what do you think?  Do you think I do?  Please tell me what I should do and in what order, etc.  I really would like to get this solved but I am scared because of what happens when I tried to install the Service Pack 1.  I really thought I wasn't going to get my computer back.  And when I did it the second time and it did it again, I hid it, I won't do that again.  Please let me know what to do now.  Thank you.

Okay I messed up now this is what I'm doing.  The file I downloaded before was not the right one so I am going to redo the right one.  First I downloaded the cleaner and did the cleaner on both the ccleaner and registry like you said.  Now I downloaded the defragler and am defraging my computer now and it is taking such a long time so there must have been a ton of stuff there.  Once the defrag is done I am going to use that malware also and then after all of that I am going to download the SP1 that is 537MB and then see if that will go through.  Now should I be shutting down my ESET NOD32 and my SpySweeper when I download the SP1?  You said I needed the SP2 to download the new IE9 so where is that SP2 download?  Should I download that one after the SP1 or do I just do the SP2?  Will wait to hear from you before I continue.  Still defraging anyways.  Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

If you are using Windows 7, there is no SP-2 available for Win 7, when I posted that, I was thinking of Vista.  :emotion-10:

You only need Service Pack 1, for Win 7.

There is no Service Pack 2 for Windows 7.... So all you need is Service Pack 1 and then IE9. When you install it might be worthwhile to shut down the programs.
