Iexplore, error, KERNEL32.DLL

Occasionally while I am using Internet Explorer I get a message reading:
Iexplore has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL.
Iexplore will now close.
If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.
 
when I hit the close button it pops up again and that continues.
what causes this problem and how can i fix it? thanks.

This is most likely not a hardware problem. Let me suggest that you post in the Windows forum.
