IIS

In order to utilize Visual Studio.Net, I need IIS and local host. Where are they?

I have done start, administrative tools and don't see it listed. I have also done start, control panel, add/remove, add/remove windows applications and don't find it listed.

Where is it? What does Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 have to do with this problem? Should I load this service pack anyhow? Yes, I have Windows XP Professional. That's what I bought from Dell. IIS is part of Windows XP Professional software package.

And where is local host. It is supposed to be an alias for C:\inetpub\wwwroot. Where is it? How do I put it back where it belongs? Do I just type it in as a new directory? or what?

Install SP1a and see if IIS is an option to install.

Localhost is http://127.0.0.1 it will be operable once you install a webserver software in there, like Apache or IIS.

I only have Home but Local Host usually means IP address 127.0.0.1
You can use Help & Support & Search  for   iis
click on Glossary.
I have also found that some Features can't be used without SP1a installed.

IIS is Internet Information Services. It is included in XP Pro, I have XP Pro SP 1 and it is included. You need to install it, go to Control Panel - Add or Remove programs - Add/Remove Windows Components and it should appear as an option.

It gives you the ability to set up a web server and FTP server on your PC.
