Illegal operation

Computer is showing "Program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". This error box cannot be closed and the computer has to be manually shut down. I  checked the File System setting which shows 32 so KB 175703 does not address the problem.

I was not there when problem first occured but person sent email with attachment and supposedly problem occured after that.

I just found out that Windows 98 does not have system restore feature like ME and XP-- darn!

Can anyone offer some suggestions on what I might try please.

Thanks,

Susan

ALgal,

The closest thing Windows 98 has to System Restore is the capability to restore to a good copy of the registry. The procedure for this is here.

Thanks Denny,

I did the restore but that did not help my illegal operation problem. I am getting the illegal operation problem with three applications: 1) PCCguide.exe which is part of Trend Micros Internet Security 2004, 2) MyMailList 3) Quick Books Pro.

I ran McAfee free virus scan and nothing appeared to be infected.

Can anyone suggest what I should try next.

Thanks,

Susan
