Image Expert 2002 .. corrupted/How do I fix???

Since June of last year, I can no longer print, or save to my hard drive, .jpeg file photo attachments from my yahoo email.  This was never a problem before.

I spent four hours on the phone with Dell Tech Support last week, and the problem is still not resolved.  Dell Tech had me perform certain tests, email him a sample of the .jpegs I couldn't open (he could), and then he emailed them back to me with instructions.  All efforts failed, and he said the problem was that the Image Expert program was 'corrupted', and had to be re-installed.  He seems to think the Image Expert program is on Disk #1 of the Works 2002 disks, but I just found that missing disk and that seems to have only MS Works and Word on it.

I am very much a 'newbie' with this stuff, and would appreciate it if some kind knowledgeable soul to tell me which of the MS backup disks has Image Expert 2002 on it????  Please help ... I am desperate!!!  TUA   Madeline

Image Expert was an awful program for pictures. Why don't you switch to XP's Fax and Picture viewer? Right click on a jpg file on your computer and pick Open with Windows Fax and Picture Viewer. You might have to change the file association for jpg images in Explorer, Tools, Folder Options to reclaim your photo files from Jasc Image Expert, since it hijacks all your jpg files.

Edit: I just checked my Works 2002 disks and Image Expert is not on any of them. The only photo program is on disc 3: MS Picture It. It must have come from the factory installation since I can't find it on any discs sent with the computer. It was only a trial version anyway. Dell might have it available for download on your support download  page.

To Mary G.:  Thanks so much for responding.  I tried your very helpful suggestion, but was thwarted here, too.  I right-clicked on my jpeg image, and did not find a 'open with Windows Fax & Picture Viewer option.  I then went to All Programs and searched ... not there, and also I do not find  Explorer ... only MS Explorer, which doesn't appear to be the same thing.  When I spent so much time trying to solve this problem myself, I checked out each program under All Programs, and found many of them not working, i.e., Dell Solutions, Streets & Trips, etc.  Dell Solutions wouldn't click.  Streets & Trips  presented a window saying the program was corrupted.   Image Expert is also nowhere to be found in All Programs ... I'm really at my wit's end, and it's not as if I'm not trying.  So frustrating!  I have XP-Home Edition ... is this why I don't have those programs you mentioned???

To Mary G.: You're correct .. it is not on Disk #1/Works, and like you, I can't find it on any of the other disks.  I was initially 'impressed' by the Dell Tech Support guy I talked with, because I could at least understand him (unusual with these offshore people) and I thought he knew what he was talking about, but now I'm even more frustrated than before and I think that four hours was a total waste of time.  He's going to call me back Tuesday (hopefully), so I'll dump these additional problems I found on him,  waste another four hours, and still wind up with nothing. I always call for Tech Support as a last resort because I never get any satisfaction.  The Dell Comm. Forum, though, has helped me a couple of years ago, so that's why I turned there now.  TG for nice people like you who try to help.  Madeline

The Image Expert I had is not a Microsoft product.  It was a Dell branded version supplied by
JASC (Paint Shop).  It is now owned by Corel.

I don't remember which CD it was on but I think it was on a separate CD as I had the Image Expert Premium program with my 8200.

To Fireberd:

I have an 8200 too, and you must have gotten more disks from Dell than I did.  All I got was the Reinstallation CD for MS Windows*XP Home Edition and then the MS Works 2002 package.  Everything was pre-loaded when I got the computer, so I didn't have to install any MS programs myself.  On my computer the Image Expert comes up when I go to All Programs>Dell Picture Studio, so it is in that bundle, but it doesn't work.  The Dell Tech guy said it 'went bad'.  Disk #3 in the Works package includes:  MS Picture It and Photo 2002, but doesn't say it includes Dell Picture Studio where Image Expert supposedly 'hides'.  I don't know which disk, if any, Dell Picture Studio is on.

Until I get the Image Expert problem straightened out (hopefully), anybody got any ideas how I can print and save photos from my Yahoo email using other applications ?????  I can't believe there is only one way to do this, or that I paid so much money for this Dell computer, and I get stuck with one stinky, unworking program to print photos.  Input appreciated.  Thanks.   Madeline

Image Expert is NOT part of any Microsoft Program.  It won't be in any Microsoft package such as MSWorks or MS WorksSuite.  It will either be on a Dell applications CD or on a separate CD.  If I remember correctly Dell, at the time I bought my 8200, offered the Image Expert as a standard application (no extra charge) but for an extra charge I got the Image Expert Plus.

I no longer have the 8200, or the CD's so I can't directly put my finger on it.

Fireberd:  Thanks for expanding on this.  Dell sent me ONLY the backup CDs I mentioned previously.  I keep all those CDs together, and I checked.  They didn't mention (or note) anything/anywhere about Image Expert.   I didn't/don't seem to have any choices when I try to print photo attachments from my yahoo email ... it goes automatically into Image Expert, which no longer works.

The Dell Tech guy is supposed to call me back tomorrow and, hopefully, we can straighten it out then.  Meanwhile, I experimented and taught myself a new 'trick', and it seems to work:    I forward my yahoo email mail as an attachment to my AOL email account, and print and save it from there.  This is a pain in the neck, however, as it is double work,  so I want to print and save directly from my yahoo account where these photos come in.  Thanks for additional input.  Madeline
