Incorrect product key

I have been told i need to reinstall windows to sort out a problem on my inspirion 5150.  I have apparently reinstalled 2 operating systems on my computer.  How do i locate the old version of windows of windows XP home edition and delete it so i can log onto the new version of windows XP home edition by entering my product key which is correct.

sjc70,

It's not clear what you mean when you say you "apparently reinstalled 2 operating sytems." Did you do a clean reinstall of Windows XP (see this) and subsequently get a prompt to choose an operating system when you start the computer?

If so, you need to edit your BOOT.INI file to remove the reference to the now non-existent operating system. You can do this with the procedure here or by going to Start|Run, entering msconfig and clicking OK. On the BOOT.INI tab click the "Check all boot paths" button. One boot path will be identified as invalid and you will be able to delete it at that time.
