The problem is that each time I run a "sfc/scannow" scan the dialog box would open right before it was done with the scan and would not finish, prompting me to re-load the disc over and over.
Is this a virus or something that is not a serious issue?
Hi there should be a sticker at the side of your system or base of it is a laptop). If the sticker says XP Media Centre Edition, it is the correct disc.
You may reinstall Windows XP using that disc. Follow my guide below for instructions.
I mentioned above to use Malwarebytes' Antimalware to scan your system from malware and to use ccleaner to clean your computer (and registry cleaner) however it needs approved for some reason.
SFC requires a disk that matches your current Service Pack level. If your disk came with SP2 and you are running SP3, it will be looking for an SP3 disk, as some of the files have changed. In some cases, it even requires media that is the same distribution (VL, Retail, OEM).
Would spy ware cause the error message:"FILES THAT ARE REQUIRED FOR WINDOWS TO RUN PROPERLY MUST BE COPIED TO THE DLL CACHE. INSERT WINDOWS XP PRO CD" to occur?BTW, this message only appears when I run "sfc/scannow."
Is this message to tkaen seriously, again it only appears when I run the
sfc/scannow" ?
I already have a Security software on my PC with spy ware detection. If I run the one that you recommend wont that conflict?
Yes, you should to take that seriously. Could be a number of reasons why those files are missing. They got corrupted, they got replaced by malware using the same file names, failing hard drive etc.
Are you putting that disk in a CD drive or in a DVD drive? It has to go in your DVD drive. And if you have two DVD drives, try putting the disk in other one.
As was already said, if your hard drive has SP3 and the DVD is only SP2 (eg, MCE Rollup2), sfc will give that error message.
If you're going to reinstall, back up your personal files first on external media or they'll be lost forever. And you might want to use PC Restore instead. That will reset the hard drive to exactly the way Dell shipped it in only a few min with all the hardware drivers etc. Much faster/easier than a clean reinstall. You still need to back up personal files first and install SP3 and all other Microsoft updates and fixes after running PC Restore.
I only have one way to insert a cd/dvd into my pc,if thats what you are referring too.
I dont think I need to reformat, but I would like to correct the problem. I have VERIZON SECURITY SUITE, which is my virus protection;so far it has not detected any issues.
The problem of the error message only occurr when I do a sfc/scannow;other than that it does not show up.
The disc I have is WINDOWS XP MEDIA EDITION.This is what the computer originally
SFC requires media that matches what is currently installed, meaning, if your media is XP SP2 and you have SP3, SFC needs SP3 files to complete its scan. Use nLiteOS.com to integrate SP3 into your media.

The disc should look like this:
It might be a different colour. What do the labels on the other 5 discs say?

You must have XP Media Centre Edition opposed to Professional then. Have you attempted to use this DVD when prompted.

I am not sure why they would suddenly become missing. Have you used any registry cleaners? What security are you using?
Download and install Malwarebytes' Antimalware free version, then update and run a scan.
Also download and install ccleaner run the cleaner and then registry cleaner.

Personally I would do the clean install.
