inserting pictures into word document

I am not sure where the problem lies, but.... I am trying to insert photos (that I have scanned and saved) into a word document (to create a calender), but when I insert them, half of the photo is blacked out ?!?!?  I have tried inserting photos that have been scanned and saved, and tried scanning them directly into the document.  The kicker is, sometimes it works and I am not doing anything different!  HELP!

Try this as a test. If you insert the pics and they are still half blacked out, go ahead and leave it, try saving the document, closing it, then reopen it. Are they still blacked out?

Yep!  They are still half black! Thanks for trying!  I'll attempt anything at this point!

What image file format are you using? If they are .jpg's, there may be a problem with .jpg compression. Try opening up the picture you want to use in your image editor, make sure its properly sized, and then "save as .jpg." When you save make sure you save with the "standard" option and not "progressive".
