Install Win 98 on E520

Question

Can anybody tell me if I can, without too much trouble, install Win98 SE on a Dimension E520? The biggest trouble, I'm guessing, would be to get the Win98 installer to recognize the SATA CD/DVD and HD? I need to try this as I have propritary software that only prints from within Win98 (trust me, I've tried EVERYTHING to get it to print from XP...no go!). Any suggestiuons would be greatly appreciated.   Tks...

there will be no driver support to do this. Windows 98 will not know what any of the hardware is.   Last but not least  WHY??

Hi      Software has backwards compatability, but not forward.  You would not be able to find drivers for about all of your hardware.  Best way to do what you want is keep a computer with that OS for that specific need, if no other option is do-able.  Or find some kind of software emulator.   Dont know much about emulators.                                                                            Vince

Thanks for all the replies. The case is now closed, no Win98 going on that machine (or any other one for that matter..lol). MS Virtual PC will be used instead until I can get rid of the legacy customer database software I've been using.   Cheers!

I have the same question concerning a Dimension 5150 and Windows Me. The wife has the same problem with software compatability with Xp. So I am trying to do a dual boot with another SATA HDD. Windows loaded ok but now I need the drivers for the Chipset to get back in the game to use the CDRom. Am I DIW (dead in the water)or is there hope???????
