Install Windows 10 or not
I have a DELL Latitude 3540 pre-installed with Windows 8.1 Pro, complete with applications installed by DELL. Ever since I purchased the computer "Get Windows 10" has appeared in the notification area, which I have so far ignored. Yesterday I ran Windows Update and saw to my surprise that Windows 10 had already been downloaded on my computer, waiting to be installed. I immediately changed settings of Windows Update from Automatic to "let me decide whether to install updates" out of fear that my hard disk will be re-formatted. and therefore all the applications plus Office 2013,which I installed will be erased as well. I don't have CDs for re-installating drivers,and applications that my computer previously had in the as-is condition when I purchased the ready-to-use computer. Am I justified in my thought and fear that installling Windows 10 will be a disaster for me? I would very much appreciate remarks from community members.

You have a until July 2016 to decide about windows 10. That is when the free offer expires so there's plenty of time to research this and allow the early problems with win 10 to be worked out. Lots of info available from trusted sources. You can even find info on reclaiming the space with the installation files although windows 10 will not be installed without your permission. Most say windows 8 should be upgraded since windows 10 corrects many of the complaints about 8.
You will not lose Office 2013 since that can be downloaded again if necessary using your activation key that came on a card in the box with the new computer. Make sure you find it--it can be well hidden in the box or the paperwork--and preserve it for future use such as replacing the hard drive. Here is the Office Download site--
