Installation Error.........

I had no problem installing a CAD software into my computer with XP. That computer crashed so I bought a new desktop and a new laptop. Both, of course, came with Vista. I can't download this software into Vista, even though it claims it's compatable with Vista. the got the 2008 version of this CAD software. I get the error message #1619 Error Install Package open Failed

"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package"

I know it's there on the disk, i can read the files from the disk, but can't load it into either computer. Does anyone suggest that I take Vista out of both computers and load XP? My newest computer has Vista Home Premium with 64 bit. Who can help, I have received a few ideas, none work so far.

have you tried running the installer/software in vista's compatibility mode? how old is the software?

this isn't a problem with vista as much as it is a problem with the software developers not providing the right support.

Hi

Are you sure CAD 2008 is compatable with 64 bit Vista it seem i read

in a post a good while back it would not work for a 64 bit OS be it XP or Vista .

If CAD has to install a 32 bit driver or uses 16 bit installer of some kind

it will not work at all for 64 bit !

I would say go back to CAD and there web site and make sure it will work

for 64 bit Vista ,

it may be compatable with 32 bit Vista only !

Good Luck

That is  a possibility. I'll contact the CAD co. and see what they say. But, I don't have the 64 bit on my laptop, just 32 bit and it still has same error message.

How does one try installing in Vista's compatibility mode? Can I get instructions on trying this way?

The CAD software is 2008 version.

I did talk to someone from the CAD software co, and they claim this only works on Vista Business, not Vista Home. What is the big difference?

to run in compatibility mode: right-click the desktop icon (or the program item in your list), select properties, then the compatibility tab.  there should be a drop down menu available at the top of the dialog box where you can select windows XP (i think it even goes as far back as windows '98!).

do you mean the software only works on vista business or running the program in compatibility mode? i don't understand how software wouldn't run on one version of the OS and not the other...

Ok,

I don't know what Desktop Icon you're talking about. If you are pertaining the DVD disk with the CAD system on, I had to do it when the disk is in drive E:  Then I right clicked on it and what came next...there wasn't any choice for XP . What next? What computer desktop icon you talking about?

Hi

What you do is go to the CD drive left click select explore find the setup.exe

and right click on that then select properties then the compatibility tab ,

then check the box that says to run in compatibility mode for XP SP2 .

Good Luck

Edit

Then left click on the setup.exe and see if it will install right !
