Installation of OS

A long time ago, my parents bought a Dell and it came with an installation CD for Windows XP Home Edition. I was wondering, although it says 'for installation on a dell PC' on the CD, will it mess anything up if I install it on my computer I made myself? I checked and my computer meets the system requirements and everything is good to install, I just want to make sure my computer won't crash or anything because I installed a 'dell-only' Windows XP Home. My current OS is Windows 2000 Professional, so I know upgrading is out of the question, but I was going to Clean install it and uninstall Windows 2000 afterward anyway.

It will prompt you for a Legal xp Key during the installation, no it is not legal, unless you have a legitimate XP key. No you cannot use the key from the Dell PC.

What would happen if i use the key from the dell pc? if that doesn't work, then I can use a key from a school computer couldn't i? wait, i heard my Information Processing teacher tell me something about this...isnt it that each individual Windows XP Home CD has its own key, and only that key will work with it?

Like I said, it is ILLEGAL to use a key from the Dell PC or any other key you did not purchase.

The Dell disc is tied to a Dell motherboard.  Forget about the key, you will not even get that far.
