I had the same problem-- Disc 1 would install, but Disc 2 never got going.
Go to the Activision web site for help:
www.activision.com/support and search for
answer 12693 to do a manual install. Simple directions and it worked perfectly.

For those who don't know what we're talking about:
1. Open up My Computer and right-click on your DVD-RW or CD-RW drive 2. Select Properties 3. Click on the DLA tab 4. De-select "Enable DLA on your drives" and click Apply 5. Install DOOM 3 (or your other game) 6. Install any game patches 7. Now, you can re-check "Enable DLA"
