Installing more memory

I just installed more memory on my Dell Dimension 2400.  I had 126 MB and installed 512 more.

If I remove the old 126 memory card and replace it with a new 512 MB to get 1024 MB, will I lose information?

I mean, where are my computer's brains stored, in the hard drive, but not the memory cards?  Or what?

I'm gonna' get that Sims game working if it's the last thing I do!!!

You will be a-ok replacing that old 126MB card.  Actually it is wise to replace it with a 512MB card -- that way assuming you buy the same module as the other 512MB card -- you will have a matching memory pair and will be runnind dual-channel memory mode VS single-channel memory mode.

There is no information stored on the memory long-term.  Every time you turn the computer off, the memory loses all of its information.  SDRAM needs power applied to it to store its information.

FYI The Dimension 2400 does not support dual channel memory.

Alright, my bad.

Still recommend replacing that one stick of memory.

Wow, Thanks.  I think I will.  My computer is running so much better.  I'll get the same type of memory card.  In a brief moment of clarity, I kept the packaging.

P.S.  My computer was filled with dust bunnies.
