Installing new hard drive

Question

I had to replace my Dell Inspiron M5010 hard drive, it is an exact match to the old one. I keep getting a blue screen with the code STOP: 0x0000007B. I know I have to partition and format the hard drive but I am lost. Last time I had a warrenty and was able to send it in for a hard drive replacement, but can't afford to do it now so decided to do it myself. I tried installing the reinstallation CD but then get the blue screen. I can not do the CHKDSK /F because I can not get to the F8 screen or prompt command. The hard drive is located on Drive F. Praying someone can help me with this.

Hi leonaisminasmom,

Please follow the steps to change the SATA operation in BIOS:

Switch on the computer, tap F2 at dell logo to enter BIOS screen. Select the “Advanced” tab and select “SATA Operations”.
If the SATA operation is set to “AHCI” change it to “ATA” or if it is set to “ATA” change it to “AHCI”.
Press F10 to save changes and exit.

also get : error codes (when disk is not inserted) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM There were no cables removed or came with the hard drive .....

Thank you! It worked! I debated on changing it but when it sends a warning, I left it alone. But I changed it and Yea!, It worked! Again Thank You!
