Installing Win2K prof. in an Optiplex GX110
Hello......Merry Christmas & Happy New Year......to all
During this Holiday Season I'm planning to install Win2K prof in an Optiplex GX110 (from Windows 98).
I have a Win2K Prof. UPGRADE OEM disk.
What else do I have to do BEFORE starting it, and what I have to do AFTER?.
Is there a Dell site where I can read which Dell's drivers to upgrade, how, etc?.
I was delaying the upgrade until now, I know is call for trouble.
Wish me luck.:smileyindifferent:

Here are two documents you should review:
Dell's Windows 2000 reinstall guide for the GX110.
Microsoft's Windows 2000 Compatibility Analyzer.
Your instincts should be trusted. Some Win98 to Win2000 upgrades go well, others very badly. The best way to ensure against loss of data is to back up any files you want preserved to external media. In other words, expect the upgrade will not be successful, and that you will need to reformat your hard drive as part of the Win2000 installation, losing all its contents. That way, if the upgrade fails, you're fully prepared to deal with it.

Hopefully yours will be one of the successes. I've done one Win98 to Win2K upgrade. It was an Inspiron 7500, and it went fine, after taking the steps suggested by Microsoft's Upgrade Advisor. I should have asked how much memory the machine has. Like XP, 512K is a comfortable amount for Windows 2000.
