Installing WIN98 on my Latitude X200

Hello,

I`ve some problems when I tried to install a WIN98 on my laptop. Is it possible to install this OS on a Latitude X200???

I used a bootable WIN98 CD, but after the installation there is only a blue screen with some error code when I boot the laptop.

Can someone help me?

On a generic machine for Win98 installs I use a boot diskette, run fdisk to establish the partitions I want (be sure to set an active partition), establish and format the drives, then boot with the boot diskette with cd support and copy the win98 folder on the install cd to the harddrive and install win98 from the hard drive. I don't know if there are modifications to that process required by Dell hardware or special Dell cds.

If you are looking for hardware drivers, here is a link to those drivers for Win98.

If needed.

I don't know if you've solved this by now, but...
Didn't your Latitude X-200 ship with WinXP or Win2000 installed?

If you're trying to convert to Win98SE from a system that originally had a newer OS... you might have to install Win98SE "without" ACPI, like this user ("click here"), if you running into difficulties.

I usually use the "Ultimate Boot Disk" ("click here") for the Win98SE installs I do and it doesn't install ACPI...

Rod
