Hi,

Could you confirm the dll file that you are having problems with. I suspect it is drivers for the sata controller. You will have to look at slipstreaming the driver for text mode installation. I would suggest using the driver packs for all raid/sata controllers found on http://driverpacks.net/. I have used these myself for installing xp to SATA based machines without any problems.

Cheers

Try a different Windows disc - it sounds like yours is damaged.

I mentioned a dll file as an example, just tried it again now it says "Setup cannot copy the file: d3dim.dll". if I skip the file it then says "Setup cannot copy the file: d3drm.dll", then it says "Setup cannot copy the file: ddeshare.hlp" and so on.

Could it be that I am using a dell Win XP disk from a more recent PC, It is not damaged, just opened the sealed package. But I have also tried to use conventional Win XP OEM disks as well without success. Regarding the driverpacks, I have just been on the site and it seems they need to work from Win XP. As I have mentioned, this is a brand new HDD with currently no operating system on it. Could there possibly be another problem with the PC. I decided to upgrade to a larger HDD after my present drive Blue screened. I managed to save my documents by installing in another PC and retrieving my documents, but I had this same problem installing on that drive, so I thought that that might be faulty. Hence, the upgrade.

Tried several discs, including a new sealed Windows XP Home with SP2

I have since removed the HDD from the PC and installed it as a master drive in another PC (Acer) and Win XP installed without any problems. I have returned the HDD to the Dimention 3100, Win XP loads, but the keyboard or mouse won't work and blue screens after a short time. Decided to do a repair (boot from CD, Press R for repair), but has the same problem then reading from the CD, surely, there is something more wrong with the PC, maybe a motherboard, Processor or Memory problem.

I have also tried a different CD Drive.

Was your old hard drive an SATA type or IDE cable connection? Also was your old hard drive working fine, before you upgraded to a bigger HD?

If your old HD was an IDE type, you might try to exchange your SATA HD to an IDE type, I think that should work. If after exchanging  your HD it still doesn't work, then I'm suspecting its your motherboard. Good Luck!

Yes it was a SATA type, it blue screened on me, it was an 80GB HD, I was told it was probably the HD, so I purchased a 160GB SATA HD. I have got an IDE HD, so I am going to try that now.
