1. No it will not boot.

2. What I always recommend is to remove the Dell hard drive from the new system, save it in case you ever want to use Vista, or sell the PC, then simply put it back in. Install a New hard drive in the new system to install XP on.

3. New Dell systems will not allow the installation of an older IDE hard drive, everything is Sata now. There is no IDE controller on the motherboards anymore.

4. Dell does not provide XP drivers for the XPS420, so it may be a difficult task to install XP on that system, You will have to hunt down drivers one by one on the internet, not an easy task for the inexperienced.

the hard drive i have in the old computer is Sata drive,it's coming out of a Dim E521,I have 2 hard drives in that computer,i dual boot vista & xp,my question is will the dell xp disk reinstall after formating ,or would i not be able to activate it,i would set up a dual boot on the new computer.yeah the drivers might be a problem.
