InstallShield Error 0x80040707
Hi, This my first post so hope I'm in the right place. I purchased my Studio XPS 435MT last July (09) and upgraded to windows 7 Premium (x64) within the Dell upgrade programme when windows 7 was made available. I included a Blu Ray disc when I got the XPS but never used PowerDVD to watch movies, just used Media Centre. I did however notice that PowerDVD did actually work and I updated the software when asked. I'm now on windows 7 and have a Blu Ray to watch. PowerDVD booted up as expected and easked again to do an update, which I started. I then got the dreaded 0x80040707 error and the software update terminated. I then un-installed PowerDVD and tried to re-install but keep getting the same error. I talked with Dell support and after a number of calls and with them also logging into my PC they have asked me to re-install the op sys. (Back to Vista and then upgrade again...no way). Has this ever happened to anyone else and/or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix? please. I have copied the error message below. Last resort is to buy PowerDVD 9, I have the trial version installed so that I can watch the movie and it works fine. But why should I have to pay for it!! Regards..

Hi, Sorry for the late reply. The answer is 'no' I didn't get an answer to this problem. I tried Dell support and got the run-around, in the end they told me the only way to fix was to re-install windows. Since I bought the PC with Vista with the option to go to Windows 7, I really didn't want to go back through all that work. I donwloaded the 30 Day trial of PowerDVD 9 and this worked fine, but as yet I haven't purchased the full version.

I am getting this exact error when I try to update my PowerDVD DX 8.3.5424. I can't use PowerDVD because it tells me I need to update but errors every time. I have a Studio XPS 435T/9000, purchased in January 2010. I, too, am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. Were you ever able to find a solution to this problem?

Thanks for the reply. I'm still working on figuring out the fix for this. I figured Dell support would have me try something crazy like re-install programs, but re-install the OS? To fix a PowerDVD upgrade installation error? I think not! I'll post here when I figure out the solution.

Hi all, I am have the same Problem w/ my Studio XPS 435/9000 Win7 64 bit AND my Latitude E6510, both purchased a month ago July 20th. The action center comes up with the same lame troubleshooting steps. It would be nice if just Once, I would receive a new computer from Dell that I Did Not have to spend DAYS troubleshooting it to get It to perform AS Advertised. I Like Dell. I Just want support, to Support! P.S. I Have other download/upgrade issues, and I have been able to fix 50% of them. Thanks for any help.
