Installshield hangs

Running application installs now hangs at 60% completion. MS Knowledge base
mentions a known problem when Office 2000 is installed. Yes, I did install Office
2000 but since then I've now uninstalled it.

The MS KB article is not helpful. I cannot right click on the C:\Windows folder
to set permissions as it recommends due to the fact that neither Properties or
Sharing&Security do anything when selected. Thus, I'm stuck.

How to fix MSI installation problems ???

I had install problems under Win 98 when Norton Antivirus Autoprotect was running. Disabling NAV during the install did solve the problem.
Although I never experienced problems under XP and with newer Symantec versions, it may be worth trying.

Thanks for your suggestion, but that is NOT the problem. That's one of the very first things tried. This is an actual problem that has been reported elsewhere (as I mentioned), yet not resolved yet in any post.

Steve,
Boot into Safe Mode, turn off antiviral, and then try installing the software.
Out of curiosity what app are you trying to install? This issue has come up in other posts over the last few months so it would be interesting to know which package you're trying to install.

This happens with multiple installations, so it's not isolated to a single product. I can't install Sonic CinePlayer or MS Virtual PC. A Dell phone support suggested I try creating a new user account. Under that new account, the Cineplayer software would install....but the installer hangs if I attempt to uninstall the software. So, there is still something wrong with my system.
