Instant messaging

I am currently enrolled in an on-line college program which involves allot of instant messaging from student to student to complete the work.  Where are these messages stored in my computer?  Does this effect the performance?  And if so how do I delete these messages to clean up space?

                                                                 Thanks, Taperski.

taperski,

Hmmmm... I checked my the directories that I have AIM and Yahoo! installed into and I didn't see anywhere that my chats were saved.  Your best bet is to probably do a cut and paste of the whole chat session into a .txt file before closing the chat window.  Also, look in the preferences for each program to see if there is an option to save your chat session at the end of it.

I don't know about AIM but on Yahoo clik on Messanger, Preferences, on the left side click on Archive and enable archiving on the right side then change the number of days to delete old messages to a desired number like 99 or any number between 1 and 999. Hope this helps, you may try on AIM to see if it has such an option.

With the AIM software, messages are not saved anywhere.
