Insufficient Memory to Initialize Windows (Win95)
I just purchased a Latitude D520 and re-partitioned the hard drive so that I can load multiple operating systems (Windows 95 and Windows XP). When I partitioned the drive I gave it a 2GB partition for Win95 and designated the rest of the drive for Win XP.
I have loaded Windows 95 (without any errors), but I keep getting an error during startup"
"Insufficient memory to initialize Windows. Quit one or more memory-resident programs or remove unneccessary utilities from your Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files, and restart your computer."
I did a search on the Microsoft KB and sound several articles dealing with this problem. Most said to limit the size of RAM available for the operating system to use, so I added a line in the [386Enh] section of the System.ini file limiting RAM starting with 768 MB (MaxPhysPage=30000) and worked my way down to 128 MB (MaxPhysPage=08000). None of these setting worked and I kept on getting the same error message.
Another Microsoft KB article said to add a line in the [VCache] section limiting the Cache size. I tried this as well with the following lines:
[VCache]
MinFileCache=10240
MaxFileCache=30720
This also did nothing for me. Can anyone give me some advice as to what is preventing Windows 95 from starting up?
Thanks in advance
