Intel USB 2.0 Controller Driver

My computer has just recently become unable to recognize
my devices that I plug into my USB ports.  I checked the
device manager and found that the "Intel® 82801DB/DBM USB
2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD" driver is "not
installed".  I've tried to re-install the driver using
the the Hardware Update Wizard and the driver CD that
came with my Dell Computer to no avail.  I then reloaded the intel chipset from the driver CD, but that didn't work either.  This problem started occurring after I upgraded my Windows XP Home to
Windows XP pro.  I've also tried to find the driver on
the internet, but no luck yet.  Thanks to anyone who can
help me,

Jason

Have you tried removing the USB host controller from Device Manager, rebooting, and letting Windows redetect and reinstall the device?

Thanks Steve,

I uninstalled the intel USB 2.0 controller... and the computer detected new hardware and it searched microsoft help and support and I received this message...

"Thank you for submitting information about your missing driver to Microsoft. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of this device has not provided Microsoft with any driver information. To request an appropriate driver or to find out if the manufacturer plans to create a driver that meets the "Designed for Windows XP" requirements, contact the manufacturer directly."

I checked the device manager and the intel controller is no longer there and a new exclamation  point by the USB Controller and the manager says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" and when I try to reinstall them with the XP home, XP pro and dell driver CDs the software is not found...

Any other advice,

Thanks,

Jason

Click on the downloads tab, above, enter your service tag number, and see if you can find the drivers on the download site.  Alternatively, tell us which model computer you have and we can point you to the proper download.  You did install the chipset drivers, correct?  Have you upgraded your Windows to SP-1a?   SP-1 is required for USB 2.0 support.

It's fixed!

Thanks, the SP1 came with my original edition of XP Home (and I do the automated updates when the alert pops up on my computer), but I went to the Windows XP download page... it checked my computer and said the SP1a wasn't on my computer and that there were several updates that I didn't have.  Maybe when I upgraded from Home to Pro the updates didn't continue - I have no idea.  Anyway, thanks for your help... I was about to toss my computer out the window, thanks again,

Jason

Same thing here. I flashed my Dell Inspiron 8500 to latest RECOMMENDED BY DELL update and now my Intel 82801DB/DBM USB2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD refuses to load despite downloading the utility that suppose to contain the driver
