Interactive Services Dialog Detection pop-up & "dslbdownload.ddsupdate1.com/DSLDownload"

I have a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop with Windows Vista home basic.

Starting mid-morning today (4th September 2010) I've started getting the following pop-up:

When I click "Show me the message" I get a pale blue/grey blank screen with an Internet Explorer window which has http://dslbdownload.ddsupdate1.com/DSLDownload-en.html in the address bar.  The page doesn't load though and I have only just (after trying several times over the last few hours) got it to load in a normal internet window.  Here it is:

This to me does not look like a genuine Dell site and the Whois look up says that ddsupdate1.com is registered with "Domains by Proxy" which I understand is used to mask the identity of the website owner.

Anyway, I have McAffee on my computer which hasn't picked this up so I am unsure of what to do next.  If I close the little pop-up, it just reappears after about a minute.  I don't like the idea of this "thing" being on my computer!

Any help is grateully received.  Thank you!

All users that are receiving this popup please restart your computer and the popup should no longer come up. Dell located this problem and have fixed the problem caused by a DSC silent alert and turned it off. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused users. Thanks also for being patient with us while we worked to resolve this issue.

Yankeestonk,

DSC (Dell Support Center) is a tool Dell uses to send out alerts and messages to customers.

Clarita_

Sorry, can't help but you're not alone.  The very same thing has appeared on my wife's laptop this morning when she fired it up. I'm running an identical setup on mine but haven't got the problem (yet !!!)

Hi Bob,

Thanks.  Nice to know I'm not the only one.  I've seen a number of posts on various forums describing various variations but nothing about what I've exactly described.  The genuine Dell webpage that I believe has been badly copied for this scam is here: https://www.delldatasafe.com/login.aspx?redirect=1.  Compared to this, the fake is very clearly a fake.

I have looked for an email address at Dell that I can report the phishing website to but I cannot find any way to do this.  I am supprised as most big companies like banks, ebay, paypal, etc. have a dedicated email adress for reporting phishing sites/emails to.

If your suspicions are correct then it's a classic Saturday morning thing and Monday may bring more answers when the "people who know" get back behind their desks.

Same issue in N.J. on an XPS with Nod 32 anti virus. Been running scans all day, doesn't seem to be a virus. Don't know whether to disable the interactive service or just leave the pop up on the screen while working. It appears to be happening only to Dell users. When I clicked the "show me" tab it was something about IE8 and thanks for installing the Google Toolbar. The link it wanted me to click doesn't exist.. Not sure what's going on.

Seems strange that everyone seems to be having problems with this strange 'thing'. Wonder what has triggered it. Surely they have people working at the weekend?! I've read around the internet that IEframe.dll is not a virus it is part of Internet Explorer or something.. but I don't trust it and things seem very sketchy for us all.

Our Dell XPS One All-in-one also began showing this in the early PM Austin time.  Guess we will have to wait until Tuesday for answers (Monday is a holiday)!!

I had the same problem on dell inspiron 531. I ran all the scans, virus, etc. I don't know if these steps are important, but this worked for me. Another poster here mentioned the Dell DataSafe website. My subscription to datasafe expired, and I never used it anyway. I had a couple of dell sites as a home page and datasafe was one of them, so I deleted them, and Windows Defender asked me to accept the change. I did this, but the message kept popping up. I turned off System Restore, and then uninstalled Datasafe. I rebooted my computer, and so far the message has stopped. It's been about an hour, and no "Interactive services dialog detection" box has popped up. As I said, I'm not sure if deleting the dell datasafe home page made any difference, but the uninstall of this program seems to have solved the problem for me.

*Edited to remove "bogus" from Dell DataSafe website in above paragraph!

Just for your information.

The same problem with my DELLs Laptop and Desktop, just when I turned them on this morning. I am in Mexico and my OS are 7 (32 bits) and Vista in English.

After many hour searching nothing is clear. I restarted my computers and so far everything is normal and no popups are appearing.

I believe that this problem is WW with DELL PCs and Monday and Tuesday (for US) will be a huge problem.

I will cross my fingers that is just some mistake from someone in DELL.

Best regards.

Clarita - I didn't get the Google toolbar message either. Mine was:

Message Title: Windows Internet Explorer

 Program Path: C:\Windows\system32\IEFRAME.dll

The computer came with a free subscription to datasafe, but I never used it. Whatever happened, the message is gone. I don't know if the uninstall of datasafe did anything to fix the problem, or if it's just a coincidence. But the pop up has stopped.
