Internet connection window
Hi, I'm not sure which forum this problem should be on, but here goes. My cousin called me to help sort out her computer because every time she turns it on then the internet connection (dial-up) window comes up and she has to click it several times to get rid of it. Additionally, the window appears again while the computer is shutting down. I've trawled through Internet Options and looked to see what's running on start-up but I can't see anything to stop it appearing. I also set up a new connection in case it was something to do with her internet service provider software, but this didn't solve it. Please can you help? It's Windows 98/Internet Explorer 6.
Fiona.

Yes, I guess that I should have mentioned the "always....
Another thing that you may want to keep an eye on is this: If your Internet Connection pops up now--unexpected--than that is a good sign that some program is attempting to gain access to the Internet without your knowledge.

If your cousin has not done so, download and run either Ad-aware and/or Spybot. Check for updates then run the programs and remove any spyware which may be on the computer. Unchecking then rechecking "Always dial my default conection" will not correct the problem in the long run. Something on the computer is trying to dial out.
If the ZoneAlarm firewall is installed, it will display an alert each time something attempt to connect to the Interet and identify what is making the attempt. A free version is available from here. If there is already a firewall installed, do not install a second because they will interfere with each other. I'd use the firewall if the spyware removal does not permanently correct the problem.
