Internet Connection Wizard Files Missing

Question

My problems began when I downloaded the latest version (2005) of Norton. In order to complete the installation it asked for my Office 2000  cd. I couldn't find my original disc, but I found my back-up copy. Put that it in but it couldn't find the files it needed. I tried re-installing Office, but then it called for my windows 2K Professional cd. Problems got bigger! I tried running the install program and it dumped me into the CMOS setup. Not sure what I did there, but the computer restarted and seememd to be looking for system32/ntoskrnl. . . back to CMOS,  checked to see that everything that should be enabled was and another restart. Now computer seems to running fine but the dial up connection vanished. Every time I try to make a new connection it says the Internet Connection Wizard files are missing. A friend told me to try reinstalling/repairing Internet Exlorer 6, but when I go to add/remove programs it is not even there! HELP!!! P.S. I'm writing this from my friend's computer.

You need to download the IE6setup.exe file and then say download all the files to a directory like C:\IE6SP1 and then put that on a memory key and re-install.

OR

Find a free AOL cd and see if it has an IE6 Setup directory

OR

Order internet explorer 6 on cdrom while its still available. I have a suspicion it wont be around much longer in favor of Version 7

A full download for all OS is about 50 to 70 megs.

Thank you, SpeedStep! My gut feeling told me that was what I needed to do. I sent for a cd from Microsoft yesterday, as well as the cd from Norton. I will install IE 6 first and then cross my fingers when I try the Norton again. If I had only gotten the Norton cd in the first place I don't think I'd be in this mess! Thank you for your time.
