I assume you are using the Search Icon which shows window on the left.?
If is still shows the default Search window click "Change Preferences" then click "Change Internet search ....."
then select "Default search engine from list".
--------------------
If it doesn't show default Search window you could download
You can make Google your Default search engine for IE Search Icon from Google
http://www.google.com.au/options/defaults.html
Also is option of Google Tool Bar download from
http://toolbar.google.com/
Google Toobar displays & new Toolbar with Google Search box & Options , ie: ADD Blocker & Auto fill forms etc.

TweakUIXP has an option allowing you to define any or several search engines. (for XP SP1, use TweakUIXP v 2.10). You have to find out by going to the search engine site what its URL is for a search and type that in in TeakUI, then give that search option a name; examples:
Google is http://www.google.com/search?q=%s where when you use it, the s is replaced by the search string you specify. So if you call that search option 'Google' in TweakUI, then typing
Google searchstring in IE address bar, click go, opens the Google reply for the specified searchstring.
Altavista is http://www.altavista.com/search?q=%s
Jeeves is http://web.ask.com/web?q=%s
Yahoo is http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&fr=sfp&p=%s
etc.

If you don't see the change preferences option, but instead see 'customize' at the top of the search toolbar after clicking on the search button, you first have to set search in Internet explorer to use search companion: click customize, then in the window that opens, click the radio button 'use search companion', click OK. Close IE and reopen, then you will see search companion, and you can choose the search engine as described by Gary.
You can change back to 'classic internet search' in preferences of search companion to return to the default (which only has MSN as the default search engine).

Thank you for coming to my aid. I have clicked the search which is next to my favorites button..
Search Categories drops down. They are: Seach again, Adavnced search-My forum, Forum quick links.
I am kind of new and am having a slight problem following your instructions to remove netzero as my search engine.
Thank you

That's odd; it is not standard XP Internet Explorer. The default in the search toolbar is Find a web page, Find a map, Previous searches, and lower down there are links to search for other items: files or folders, computers, people. Alternatively, on customizing you can opt for search companion instead, or for an MSN search box.
Are you using the IE that comes with Windows XP, or are you using software based on it provided by your ISP (e.g. AOL, or other)? The advanced search my forum option suggests to me that your search has been customized by your provider, since IE in Windows XP would not refer to 'my forum'. What does it say in the title bar (at the top of the window)? if it does not end with 'Microsoft Internet Explorer', but some other provider name, you have a customized version. Have you added third party tool bars?
