Some sites do not play well with Firefox because of how they are coded. You could add "IE Tab" as an add-on to Firefox. This allows IE friendly sites to work in Firefox.

Try disabling your firewall when trying to access these sites. It does sound like a firewall issue since both browers do the same thing.

The problem is not that web pages aren't compatible with firefox. I was only bringing up firefox to show that the problems with the web pages occur in both browsers. I thought it was a firewall issue or something similar as well but when i turn off windows firewall and mcafees firewall the same problems occur. It seems to have no discretion for web sites. Harmless ones like comcast.net and then login ones like gmail are both blocked. Maybe i should restart my computer after disabling my security software.

You should not be running two firewalls one will be sufficent.

You can try reseting IE.

on the top menu bar go to Tool>options. Click on the advanced tab and click on the reset button. Tis will reset IE without any addons so you may have to load java and flash again. But it should set the browser to a initial install state.

Resetting IE and disabling both firewalls did nothing. I've tried everything. This problem occurs in both firefox and IE. I've disabled any internet protection from mcafee, disabled my windows firewall, and run a virus scan on both windows defender and mcafee virus scan. I can access the sites using a proxy like myspaceunblocker.com, which i think is a key to something. Nothing else will work
