Go here and get CCleaner and set it up to delete 'recently typed URL's'. Be sure to uncheck everything you don't want removed (many of the listings) as there is no going back once cleaned.
Try this:
Start>
Run> type:
regedit and hit
OK. Go to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs click on the folder
TypedURLs in the left pane and on the right panel, see if the URL is listed and delete it if there.

Augie65 - Thanks for the help, but there were no URLs listed in the typedURLs registry
Chuket - the clearner did not fix the problem. This one URL still remains.
