Internet Explorer error message

I am getting an error message that says:  I/E caused an invalid page fault in module Ddraw.dll at 0167:baa631fd.
It won't get on line unless I reboot.  Then the problem keeps coming back.  I have tried to fix I/E by running the repair in the MSinfo 32.  It won't help.  I have found and gotten rid of 3 viruses and lots of spyware.  My scans are now coming up clean.  Any help would be appreciated. Running 98SE

"This behavior can occur if your display driver does not support the version of DirectX required by the page."

Thanks for the link. I am using a temporary display on this pc and didn't bother to load the correct driver.  This could be the problem that your link talks about.  I'll look into this tomorrow.  Thanks again.

If by "temporary display" you mean monitor, that shouldn't have anything to do with it.  The article refers to display adapter drivers, which are the video card or integrated video hardware drivers.

Updating your directx would be a good idea http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

Yes I do mean "monitor".  I take it that its possible that the direct x file is corrupted then?

I updated directx from a site and that fixed the problem.  I couldn't download directly from MS because the error message killed everything as soon as browser hit MS site.  Found a partner site that allowed me in to ver 8.1.
Thanks for the help folks.  Another happy ending.
